Obituary:
ADDISON – William P. “Bill” Mitchell, age 67, of Addison, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2010, at his home, under the loving care of his family. Bill was born March 27, 1942 in Holloway, Michigan, the son of James and Dorothy (Bailey) Mitchell. He graduated from Blissfield High School with the Class of 1960 and went on to attend Adrian College. On January 26, 1964, Bill married the love of his life, Ruth “Carolyn” Lloyd, in North Baltimore, Ohio. Carolyn, his wife of 46 years, survives. Bill worked for Addison Products and VACO Tool in Jonesville as a purchasing agent. He then started Maple Leaf Financial Investments as an independent broker for Raymond James Financial Services. Bill was an active member of the Addison United Church, serving on their Board. He served on the Addison School Board and the Maurice Spear Campus Board as well. He was a member of the Adrian Rotary Club and an active supporter of Ducks Unlimited where he worked on committees. For many years, Bill taught Hunter Safety in Addison, and shared his passion for the outdoors and hunting. Above all, Bill was a family man. He looked forward to weekend gatherings, and enthusiastically supported his grandchildren in sports and 4H. In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his children: Claire (Mike) Warner of Onsted; Laura (David) Boomer of Eaton Rapids; William “Pat” (Tamara) Mitchell of Addison; and Jennifer (Tom) Gaff of Shelby Township; 12 grandchildren: Jessica Nash, Nicole, Kelsey, and Carly Warner, Courtney, Alec, and Liam Boomer, Anthony Olson, Emily Olson-Fox, Ava Mitchell, and Mitchell and Lauren Gaff; sister, Mary Ann (James) Derby of Addison; and nephew, Jeff Derby of Hudson. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, James, and niece, Marlene Derby. At Bill’s request, cremation will take place. A Celebration of Life honoring Bill will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at the Maurice Spear Campus Chapel with Rev. Bruce Jewett and Pastor Will Snyder officiating.
