Name: Joan Bates Date: July 10th, 1927 - January 19th, 2010 Obituary: ADRIAN – Joan L. Bates, age 82 of Adrian, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at Lenawee Medical Care Facility. Joan was born July 10, 1927 in Detroit, the daughter of Harold and Estelle (Newcomb) Bodkin. On June 25, 1949, Joan married Donald Bates in Detroit. Don, her devoted husband of over 60 years, survives. Joan was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed flower gardening and was a member of the Adrian Garden Club. She was also a member of Tau Delta, the Lucille Wolcott Chapter of DAR, and the Bixby Medical Center Auxiliary for 36 years. Joan was a member of the First United Methodist Church. In addition to her husband, Joan is survived by two sons, David and his wife Denise Bates of Fairbanks, Alaska; and Christopher Bates of Adrian; a granddaughter, Julie Ann Bates of Anchorage, Alaska; two sisters, Elizabeth Warner of Philadelphia, PA and Judith Potter of Brevard, NC. A memorial service for Joan will be held at 3:00 pm. at Wagley Funeral Home on Saturday, January 23, 2010 with Rev. Christopher Brundage officiating.
