Cantrell, age 82, of Manitou Beach, passed away Monday, September 21, 2009, at her home under the loving care of her family and Hospice of Lenawee. Helen was born March 24, 1927 in Adrian, Michigan, the daughter of Frank and Eliza (Horton) Putnam. On January 27, 1947, she married Edward Cantrell in Toledo, Ohio. Helen and Edward celebrated 51 years of marriage prior to his death in 1998. Helen was a devoted wife and mother. She treasured her children and grandchildren. Helen enjoyed embroidery, sewing, and cooking for her family. She was a faithful member of West Rome Baptist Church. Helen is survived by eight children: Edward Cantrell, Jr. of Detroit; Rose Mary (Casey) Jones of Tampa, FL; Gloria (Doug) Gilmore of Fayette; OH; Jimmy Cantrell of Marengo; OH; Nancy Atwell of Manitou Beach; Larry Cantrell of Tampa, FL; Linda (Lewis) Newell of Litchfield, MI; and Danny (Rae Jean) Cantrell of Glouster, OH; 16 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and a brother, Joe (Ada) Putnam, of Hartford, AL. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son and daughter in infancy; two brothers, George and Clyde Putnam; a sister, Pauline Day; son-in-law, Johny Atwell, and daughter-in-law, Kathy Cantrell The funeral service for Helen will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Wagley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Raisin Valley Cemetery.
