Name: Larry Parkinson Date: July 13th, 1942 - May 14th, 2009 Obituary: KALAMAZOO—Larry Parkinson, age 66 of Coldwater, MI., passed away at Borgess Hospital on Thursday, May 14, 2009. He was born on July 13, 1942, in St. James, Missouri, to Norma (Brown) and Winston Parkinson. Larry attended the Missouri School of Mines in Rolla, MO., where he earned a BS in Nuclear Metallurgy, and Lehigh University in Allentown, PA where he received his MBA. On May 9, 1964, he married Claudette Shelden in Rolla, MO. after a three year courtship; they had met at a college party. Larry served as President of the Zinc Division of Interamerican Zinc. Larry attended the First Baptist Church, Adrian, MI. where he was a deacon, a greeter and served on the finance committee. He had many interests which included spending time with his grandchildren, traveling with his wife and attending Zinc association meetings. He received many awards which included the ASTM Distinguished Service award and the Galvanizers Association Annual Award. He was also a Boy Scout leader. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Larry is survived by his wife, Claudette, children, Eric (Kim ) Parkinson of Osseo, MI and Theresa(Mike) Brittain of Kalamazoo; a brother Duane (Rhonda) Parkinson of St. Charles, MO., and a sister, Norma Hudson of Saudi Arabia; eight grandchildren, Kelsey, Melissa and Emily Brittain and Teri Lynn, Sarah, Jordon, Katelyn and Ericka Parkinson. He was preceded in death by his mother, Norma and brother in law, Bruce Hudson. . The funeral service for Larry will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 18, 2009 at Wagley Funeral Home with Pastor Geoff Koglin officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
