MANITOU BEACH – Carol T. Gosselin, age 77 of Manitou Beach, passed away at her home on Tuesday, February 24, 2009.
Carol was born on June 28, 1931 in Detroit, the daughter of Arthur and Hazel (Hoenes) Tullke. She graduated from Mackenzie High School in Detroit with the Class of 1948.
On October 29, 1949, Carol married Eugene H. Gosselin in Detroit. Eugene and Carol celebrated over 51 years of marriage prior to his death in 2001.
For a brief time, Carol was a ward clerk at Henry Ford Hospital until the time of her marriage, when she chose to stay home and raise her family. She worked in catalog sales at Sears & Roebuck and also for the Lenawee Intermediate School District where she loved being with the children.
Carol’s love of children was evident throughout her life. She and Eugene were foster parents for over 10 years. Carol was active with the PTA and Girl Scouts where she was instrumental in establishing the first troop in Lenawee County for disabled girls. She also worked with the Special Olympics. In her retirement years, Carol served as a Trustee for Rollin Township for 8 years. She also delivered food from the commodity programs to the elderly and disabled, and volunteered at blood drives for the American Red Cross.
A faithful member of the Rollin Center United Methodist Church, Carol was active in the United Methodist Women.
Carol is survived by her children, Sheryl Betts of Manitou Beach; Scott (Debra) Gosselin of Clayton; and Sharon (Leonard) Gust of Manitou Beach; 18 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and her life-long friend, Patricia Kucharek of Taylor, Michigan.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Gosselin, and a granddaughter, Emma Christine Gust.
At Carol’s request cremation has taken place. A memorial celebration will take place March 28th 11:00 a.m. at Wagley Funeral Home with Rev. Craig Pillow officiating.
